Challenging Superpole for CIA Landlord Insurance Honda at Misano

The day started promisingly for CIA Landlord Insurance Honda’s Peter Sebestyen with a confidence boosting fifth position in a wet Free Practice 3 at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.  The Hungarian rider looked on course for a solid qualifying position but a small crash on the first flying lap of his second run in Superpole lost him half of the session and dropped him down the order to twentieth.

Sebestyen said: “Overall the feeling with the bike was better until the crash, it came from nothing, I made a mistake.  In the wet the bike felt good and I was happy we could improve a bit also in the dry.  I believe we could do better.  Now we have to check the data and see what we can find and also I still have to improve my riding style in these conditions.”

It also proved a tough day for teammate Jules Danilo who starts tomorrow’s 19-lap World Supersport race from the seventh row of the grid after qualifying in twenty-first position.

Danilo said: “Well a very bad qualifying.  I just tried every lap and was doing the same lap time so that’s my limit right now. I could probably go a tenth or two faster but altogether it’s not good enough, we need to try something because I can do 50 laps like this but we are still two seconds off the pace.”

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “What can I say, it’s the worst qualifying of the year.  Peter went into turn 8 too hot and lost the front and for that he paid the price, that finished the session for him. He was so strong in FP3 in the wetter conditions so to end up here is really disappointing but there’s nothing we can do, we have to put it behind us.”

“Basically after his first run with two more new tyres, Jules didn’t improve.  Obviously we will do everything we can for him to change the bike balance, but this track is a low grip circuit compared to Jerez.   It’s the same for everyone so mostly Jules is going to have to adapt his riding style and show us his talent.”
