CIA Landlord Insurance Honda rider Jules Danilo and stand in rider, Gabriele Ruiu concluded the final day of the official Portimao test at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal yesterday. After two days of scorching conditions which saw the track temperature reach 50 degrees, Ruiu was ninth on the timesheets, only 1.1s off the pole time of 1’45.281 set by compatriot, Caricasulo.
Ruiu said: “I’m feeling good. It was very nice, I learned the bike and we tried some things. I think that at the end of the two days the feeling with my team was great.”
French rider, Danilo worked mainly on preparation for the next race at Portimao in two weeks time and completed the two day test eleventh overall. He said: “We tried a lot of things that we had in mind from a while ago. Generally it has been positive. I’m missing that explosive lap time as usual, I’m not very good at that but we were quite consistent every time we went out of the box. We still need to find that extra bit during the race weekend and I’m confident I can improve.”
CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “Gabriele Ruiu came in as a stand in rider for Peter while he sorts his problems out and I have to say he did a good job. He was only 1.1s off pole which is the closest it’s been all year, it still needs to be closer but it’s a step in the right direction. A good job by Gabriele coming in as a stand in rider; it was great to work with him and I know he appreciated the professional job we did for him.”
“We worked through a lot of stuff with Jules and confirmed things for the race so as always it was a good job by the team. He was 1.5s off pole which is the closest he has been this year. For Jules this was not a qualifying session it was a test to confirm settings and try various things to put us in really good shape for the race.”
“Portimao has always been our most successful track we are always excited to come here so let’s see what we can do.”
