CIA Landlord Insurance Honda head home this weekend for round eight of the 2019 FIM World Supersport Championship at Donington Park in the United Kingdom.
Having endured a difficult weekend in Misano where he was disappointed not to score points for the first time this season, CIA Landlord Insurance Honda’s Peter Sebestyen remains confident of his prospects at the team’s home race on Sunday.
Sebestyen said: “I really enjoy this intense period of the season. Misano was the most difficult race for us, but it just motivated me to make a good weekend in Donington. It will be an important weekend for me and also for the team. Before the holiday, I would like to get back to that position where I was in Jerez, or even better and have a good feeling with the bike. I know if we find the best settings, we can be really fast because the team has a lot of experience on this track. On the other hand, this is the team’s home race, so I will push as hard as they do to show the sponsors and fans our potential. Physically I’m in a good shape, I have trained a lot and also prepared mentally to be more focused and relaxed. I can’t wait to sit on my bike again and race. Of course, the goal is to catch the front group as always.”
CIA Landlord Insurance Honda teammate Jules Danilo salvaged a couple of Championship points from a challenging weekend last time out in Italy. The French youngster is determined to extract the maximum value from the Free Practice sessions at the 4.023km Derbyshire circuit to allow him to show his true potential this weekend.
Danilo said: “It was good to be able to ride at Donington a few weeks ago with Ron Haslam. I think that is going to help me a lot this weekend, it’s no longer a track I don’t know so hopefully I can be right on the pace from the beginning. Setting wise I think we understood a few things in Misano and I hope they can translate at Donington because right from the start, what is important is not to lose the Friday playing around with setting. The weather is looking good as well, so I hope we can have a good, solid result before the very long summer break.”
CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “It’s always good to race at your home round. We have to say we are coming off the back of a very disappointing Misano that showed so much promise and just didn’t deliver. To qualify 20th & 21st is just not the level of our bike and our team, so once you’ve done that it’s very difficult but 14th & 16th is still a disappointing result. Peter’s crash in qualifying affected his momentum and Jules struggled to get his momentum. The fact is, our bike is good enough to run at the front, this has been shown many times and whilst there has been much talk about the advantage Yamaha has – we take our hats off to Evan Bros for doing such a fantastic job with two of the fastest riders and being a good package, they have even shown the other Yamahas the way to go – the reality is Hannes Soomer qualified 4th and finished 7th on a Honda with a package that both my riders have said is not quite as good as ours. So Peter is going to have to work hard to maintain his position in the top ten in the Championship. That’s always been our goal for him this year, he has the ability to achieve that and we want him to achieve that. Jules does have the talent. I know he does, we all believe in him, we believe in both our riders but now is the time for them to start delivering. Coming to our home race it would be great to see that. Everything is there for them, we are right behind them, we know they can do it so let’s hope they give us a good boost at our home round and going into the last four rounds. Donington has always been a very strong circuit for our bike and in recent years we’ve achieved fastest laps and challenged for the win so we know we have the package there to deliver our best results of the season. Now is the time to go out and do it. We are looking forward to it and don’t forget the CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Rider Concert on Saturday, we always like to do our bit for that. It’s going to be an exciting weekend so we can’t wait to get started.”
World Supersport action kicks off at Donington Park with Free Practice One on Friday at 11:30 (local time).
