Hard fought fourth for Cluzel at Aragon

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda’s Jules Cluzel managed to clinch a fourth place finish in a drama-filled World Supersport race at Motorland Aragon today.  Jules rode a controlled race in windy conditions at the 5.1km circuit and was rewarded with some much needed Championship points.

Jules said: “I think that was the best that we could do this weekend.  Starting 14th and finishing 4th is good.  I was struggling with the rear grip and I tried to find a solution but I just tried to finish the race without making any mistakes.  We had some really strong points like the braking, but if we work on the rear grip we will be really really good.  I am confident and we need to win races to take points so that will be the target at the next race.”

Despite the windy conditions at the Spanish circuit, Hikari Okubo secured another strong points finish in 11th position.

Hiromichi Kunikawa acquitted himself well on his debut with CIA Landlord Insurance Honda with the Japanese rider finishing the race in 23rd position.

Round 3 of the World Supersport Championship was not so kind to Robin Mulhauser who highsided and crashed out at turn 7 on the first lap of the 16 lap race.  Robin wasn’t seriously hurt so can look forward to a strong ride next time out at Assen.

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager, Simon Buckmaster said: “For Jules to go from 14th on the grid to finish 4th is really good.  We went back to the base setting and Jules rode a very intelligent race.  I’m happy and relieved for everybody.  We weren’t as strong at this track as we were in Australia and Thailand so we need to look at the areas we need to improve and be fighting for the win in Assen.  Hikari crashed yesterday and didn’t have the same feeling today but it was very windy and we believe that may have been a factor but another good finish for him.  Robin made a mistake and ran wide then got on the throttle and it high sided him.  It’s a shame as he was riding really well and I’m sure he will be strong at the next round.  Hiromichi came here with no testing and has worked really well all weekend, it’s good that he has this experience under his belt and we will build from here.”
