Points for Danilo at Misano

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda rider Jules Danilo rescued a points scoring finish in the World Supersport race from the most challenging weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli today.

Starting from the seventh row of the grid in twenty-first, Danilo fought through the field to cross the line in fourteenth place ahead of teammate Peter Sebestyen who finished just outside of the points in sixteenth.

Danilo said: “It was a very tough weekend.  I didn’t expect this to be fair because in Jerez we put together a really good package and here I tried riding that package and it just didn’t work.  I just couldn’t get comfortable with the bike so we have to learn from that and improve at Donington.  I rode there last week so I know the track now and we can have a good result there. Right now I am struggling with these hard accelerations, I can’t really get the power down and then it penalises me down the straights.  We’ll work on that and get a good result before the summer break.”

Sebestyen said: “I made a mistake in qualifying and I think this result was the race result.  I’m not happy about it because I think the bike was better than before but I couldn’t feel good on the bike.  The pace was not so bad, we could fight for better positions but to start from 20th position and then make mistakes in the first lap…  I am very sorry for qualifying and all the weekend because I thought at this track we could make a step forward as the gaps were very small.  I really wanted to make my best result of the season but this happened.  I can’t wait for the next race and I will push more than ever.”

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “After qualifying it was just very difficult.  It comes back to the same thing, you have to be on it in every session.  The field is so tight so in the race you’re coming from too far back. The times from 8th backwards are the same laptimes but you have to be there at the start and if you’re not you’re fighting through.  Realistically for Jules to score points after starting 21st is as much as we could expect.”

“Peter dropped out of the points on the last lap. It’s all down to qualifying, you cannot afford to be far back on the grid.  We put ourselves in that position when he crashed on that second run in qualifying and it’s so hard to come back from there.  A bad start and mistakes on the opening lap dropped him back to 24th and it’s hard work from there to push forward using the tyre.  Peter is disappointed and I’m disappointed for Peter, everybody has worked really hard as a team as normal.  What can we say.  The next race is Donington Park and we need to show what we can do at our home round.”
