Sebestyen & Danilo make strides at Losail

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda’s Peter Sebestyen ended the opening day of the Motul Qatar Round at the Losail International Circuit, tenth on the combined timesheets.  Despite losing some track time in the first free practice session with a transponder issue, Sebestyen improved his lap time by 1.7 seconds to post his fastest time of 2’03.038.

Sebestyen said: “Session one was not so good because we had a problem with the transponder so I couldn’t do too many laps.  It was difficult because I felt that I wasn’t fast.  We did a great job with the set up for the second session.  The first two runs I just tried to maintain my pace and feel a little bit better and then in the last run when we put in the new tyre, I tried to push a bit more.   For my fastest lap there was a rider in front of me and he was slower in some points so I don’t feel like I did my best time but I think we can do a good job tomorrow.”

Jules Danilo also made a significant stride forward across the two sessions ending the first day of World Supersport action in Qatar in fourteenth position.  Danilo bettered his time by over a second and a half in FP2 and is confident of more improvement tomorrow.

Danilo said: “I think my feeling on the bike is not bad today.  A little bit of tweaking on the front maybe but the rest will come from me. I feel that I can go faster. I got held up a bit on my fast lap and then I was on my own. The pace is ok and I think I can definitely improve.”

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “We lost some time with Peter’s transponder in session one but really came back a lot stronger in session two. He is right in the fight for that group from six to ten.  We need a strong FP3 tomorrow.  Great job by the team, Peter is working very well with his crew and despite the small problem in FP1 they all kept working at it, kept the motivation and did a good job.  We need to build on that and set ourselves up for a good qualifying.”

“Jules also made a good step forward in FP2.  We need to find a good bit of time but we have the potential, everything is going in the right direction so let’s set ourselves up for a really good finish to the season.”
