The rain in Spain frustrates improvement for Sebestyen & Danilo

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda’s Peter Sebestyen ended the opening day of round three of the 2019 FIM Supersport World Championship at Motorland Aragon, thirteenth on the combined timesheets with his time posted in the morning’s dry session.

The heavy rain in the afternoon thwarted anyone’s hopes of improvement in the times so consequently the results from the dry Free Practice One stand going into Tissot Superpole tomorrow.

Sebestyen said: “The morning was quite good, we changed a lot on the bike we also changed the rear shock.  It seemed much better but it was too hard for me. I did a good run so I thought we could improve a lot but then the rain came for the second session.  It was my first time on the Honda in the rain and I didn’t feel the set up was very balanced that’s why I couldn’t push so hard.  Now I have a clear idea of what we should change on the bike if it rains.”

Fellow CIA Landlord Insurance Honda rider Jules Danilo completed a disappointing morning session at the Spanish circuit in 20th position with time of 1’57.7.  The rain denied the Frenchman the opportunity to improve in FP2 but despite this he remains positive ahead of qualifying tomorrow.

Danilo said: “Today was the worst day I have had on the bike, nothing seemed to work.  This morning we tried something at the end of FP1 which didn’t help so we ended up far down and I was waiting for FP2 to try to improve but it started raining. I wanted to go out in the rain to get some wet experience on the bike.  Tomorrow should be better, hopefully we will have some dry track and get back in the top ten.”

CIA Landlord Insurance Honda Team Manager, Simon Buckmaster said: “Thirteenth for Peter is ok but we need to improve each time we ride the bike so that we go to the next level to make the best qualifying, to make the good result in the race. Otherwise, if you make a big step in qualifying you then find more problems and you only have Warm Up to improve for the race.”

“It was a disappointing morning session for Jules and then full rain conditions this afternoon.  It was good for both riders to ride the bike in full wet conditions for the first time.  Peter was then 10th and Jules 11th so not bad.  Our bike is always good in the rain and we know there is more to come, we are knocking on the door of the top ten.  Tomorrow will be dry; the race will be dry so it’s important we improve in FP3 tomorrow and do our best to qualify in the top nine for the first three rows of the grid.  That should be attainable for us, the bike is running well, the guys are working well together with Peter and Jules so we have got to make it happen.  For sure we had more potential to be in a stronger position than we are.”
