What does landlord contents insurance cover?

Contents insurance can include items that tenants use on a daily basis, such as:

  • Washing machines
  • Dishwashers
  • Tumble driers
  • Fridges
  • Home furniture (sofa, chest of drawers, tables, etc)
  • Freestanding wardrobes
  • Beds
  • Curtains
  • Ligting (freestanding lamps, light fittings)
  • Carpets (flooring and tiling are covered by landlord building insurance, not contents insurance)

Some landlord contents insurance packages also cover accidental damage caused by tenants.

Read your policy carefully to learn more about what exactly will be covered.

What isn't covered?

Damage caused by wear and tear isn't covered. If the property has been unoccupied for more than 60 days the content won't be protected - you will need our specialist unoccupied property insurance.

Any damage to the structure also won't be covered. You will need separate landlord buildings insurance or a comprehensive landlord insurance policy that covers both buildings and contents.

Why do I need landlord contents insurance?

The household contents you're supplying your tenants, such as sofas, beds, fridges, and other appliances and furniture will cost you money. It makes sense to take out landlord contents insurance to provide you with financial cover and protection should an insured peril damage your contents.

The items you've bought to fit and furnish your property for tenants will be covered under your landlord contents insurance policy. However, this will not cover your tenants' own personal possessions and gadgets. It's your tenants' responsibility to take out separate contents insurance policies to cover their personal possessions.

How much does landlord contents insurance cost?
